Scope note: Respuesta celular a las agresiones ambientales que causan alteraciones en el PLEGAMIENTO DE PROTEÍNAS y/o acumulación de proteínas mal plegadas en el RETÍCULO ENDOPLASMÁTICO. Consiste en un grupo de eventos reguladores en cascada que se pone en marcha como respuesta a niveles alterados de calcio y/o estado redox del retículo endoplasmático. La activación persistente de respuesta de proteínas desplegadas conduce a la inducción de APOPTOSIS.
